“After these things, the Word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, FEAR NOT, Abram, I am your Shield, your abundant compensation and your reword shall be exceedingly great.”
Abram (Abraham) was a wealthy businessman who had to literally fight to protect his wealth and land. He has just rescued his nephew Lot from Chedorlaomer and a bunch of other kings who had captured Lot and his possessions from Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot had been living at the time.
So after this rescue, Abram had the goods and people from Sodom and Gomorrah too, along with Lot. So Melchizedek, King of Salem (Jerusalem) hosted a meeting between the two. Abram gave a 10th of his plunder to Melchizedek. The King of Sodom asked Abram to just give him back his people and he could keep the other stuff. But Abram said he has promised God that he would not take even one shoelace from the King so people can’t say the King of Sodom made Abram rich.
Abram wanted people to know that his blessings of wealth came from God. Abram worked for it of course; it didn’t just fall down from the heavens. He made sure God got the glory for his success and ultimate blessings.
So then we have our key verse where God says that HE is Abram’s Shield and ultimate compensation and his reward will be great.
So God tells him to go look outside his tent at the stars and tells him that is the number of his descendants he is physically going to have. Now Abram and his wife Sara where both passed child bearing age so to man, that was an impossibility.
I am sure you have things in your life you judge as impossible. So in your mind it’s impossible and you believe it’s impossible and therefore it is.
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us not to rely on our own insight or understanding. But we do and we believe what we see instead of focusing on and believing in God’s promises. What God did for Abram, He can do for you and wants to do for you because God loves you as much as He loves Abram.
No one can earn God’s favor or love. Your preacher is no better or worse than you. Joel Osteen (famous pastor) is no better than or worse than you. Suzy super Christian (you know the type) is no better or worse than you. You get what Joel gets no matter when you decide to follow God/Jesus. There is a scripture, a parable, Jesus uses to teach us this very fact. [for another time though]
So what does Abram do? Does he say “well that all sounds good, but since I can’t see how it can happen, I don’t believe it?” No. Abram believes in the “impossible”. Impossible to man is not impossible to God. God had him go look at the stars to give him a visual. Now he didn’t have to do that. He did that so Abram could focus his mind on a visual. It worked with his imagination to get God’s truth carved on his heart (subconscious mind). [see Jan 2, 2017]
Abram BELIEVED. He believed in the unseen. He believed God’s promise as TRUTH. Because that’s all he had to go on and that’s all you have to go on as well. Don’t you know doubts and fears were trying to steal that promise from Abram just like they try to steal your promises. But he chose to believe. [see Jan 2 2017]
Genesis 15:6 AMP
“And he [Abram] believed in (trusted in , relied on, remained steadfast to) the Lord, and He [God] counted it to him as righteousness (right standing with God).”
Faith, Belief and Trust in God’s promises is counted to you as right standing with God. But even better…..
God always keeps His promises.
So here is our verse to meditate on today. Repeat it over and over out loud all day and carve it on your heart. [See Jan 2, 2017]
“Fear Not, Your name, I am your Shield, your abundant compensation, and your reward for believing that I am shall be exceedingly great.”
And always remember, like Abram, to give God the glory for your reward with major gratitude. Matter of fact if you want to supersize the promise, thank Him before you see it.
